Liza Bates McCray, age 87, Hamilton, AL passed away 9:30 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in, Whitesburg Kentucky on Tuesday, April 17, 1928 to Gardner and Lula Bates.
She married Watson McCray on December 13, 1949 in Kentucky. She served her church and community all her life she started teaching at 17 years of age in Dry Fork Kentucky. She also taught many years in Michigan and Alabama, She was an active member in her church teaching Sunday School for forty plus years. She was an active member of Eastern Stars.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 27, 2015 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Marion County Funeral Home. Service will be Friday, August 28, 2015 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Bro. Israel Price, Bro. J.R. Bates and Bro. Willard Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memory Gardens.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Watson McCray; children, Larry (Chris) McCray, MN., Venida (Alan) Hyde, NC; Timothy (Kelly) McCray, AL.; 8 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice Powers KY., Patty Tibbetts, FL.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
